Carol's diary, Day 5 (distance together with Day 4 1321 Km)

DAY 5; Arrived in Moscow, after our first night on a train. The motion of the train was soothing only the occasional jerks breaking us harshly out of sleep. Rather alarmingly noone was there to meet us as planned so we took a VERY fast taxi to our apartment and made our way through the warren of streets at the back of the buildings and through 2 doors with 2 ladies holding guard. The 22nd floor has no visible sign of a fire escape. Through another fiercely locked door and our apartment has a padded door and a further locked door to negotiate. The décor is brothelesque, dull pink plush chairs and orange lighting balls in a circle on the ceiling. Our bedroom has no window but a full wall mirror! Moscow stretches out around the flat in a glorious panorama and after a reviving cup of tea we set off to explore.
