Tom, I took the trans-mongolian / siberian (EW)railway in 2002, towards the end of a one-year Round the World trip. (My almost daily logs are online, and my partner wrote a book about it. I'll tell more if you wish.) I have two regrets. 1. I did not take enough photos. 2. We did not keep details of costs. I'd be very interested in your total costs for categories such as fares, food, accommodation.

Hi Stephen. We are taking lots of photos, and videos... e.g. today of excellent buskers (classical and rock) in the Moscow Metro.

Total cost in tickets is around 1300 pounds each incl the return flight from Nepal. Tried to go first class wherever possible, but got "deals" on the western trains. The Russian train prices go up if you want to break the journey but it seems silly not to.

A 2-bed apartment for 4 people in Warsaw was 70 pounds for one night. In Moscow the equivalent is about 100 pounds. Highest price is in Ulan Bator, due to Naadam festival, a whopping 125 pounds a night for a double in the Ulaanbaatar Hotel.
